| Why Do Drivers Insist On Blasing Such Loud Music? | | I can't take it anymore!! When I'm sitting at the outdoor tables at Second Cup, cars go whizzing by, and they are blasting loud, and sometimes very obscene music. Don't these people realize they're creating noise polution, and making the world a more unpleasant place for everyone else? Why must they be so selfish? What's the appeal of music at literally eardrum-splitting levels? And where can I get a sound-ray or something to aim at their cars to silence them, as they pass by me? LOL | |
| | You just never know, do you | | A 20-something pulled up to a street corner in a hot corvette. He opened the door, got out and walked towards the door of a coffee house. As he passed the outdoor tables, he overheard people talking about what should be done about the homeless people in their community. He also couldn't help but notice the looks thrown in the direction of himself and his well-dressed girlfriend in the car.He went into the place and took his place in line. As he waited, he overheard some people in a booth talking about "the rich" and how they don't do enough.. again, the people wielded looks as weapons to be used against him. When he got to the front of the line, the guy at the counter took his order, then he paid and stepped aside, waiting for his number to be called... and listening to the talk going on around him. With his order in hand, he waded through the swamp of "conversation" and "looks" from those who cared more about the poor and down-trodden than he obviously did.He handed the coffees to his girlfriend and drove off.. the coffee house crowd were just glad "he" was out of their lives. The car, girl and rich boy disappeared from sight. We cut to the "rich boy" as an... | |
| | ARK - Act of Random Kindness ... have you done one lately? | | I was quite pleased with myself as i was able to do something good last Saturday. And i'd like to share it with you guys.
LAst saturday was payday for me here at work, so when i got off from the office at around 2:30pm, i decided to withdraw some money and treat myself and chill at a coffee shop. So after going to the bank, i walked to the coffee shop near the boulevard. The day was humid and i decided to sit by the coffee shop's outdoor tables to enjoy the sea breeze. It was still quite early in the afternoon, so there werent much people there yet. Then came the "Badjaos", (i think they are the Filipino equivalent of the Gypsys). I normally get annoyed at them coz they'd mostly pester you and ask for whatever it is that you are eating. But that day, i didnt feel like getting annoyed. I still havent ordered, anyway. But there was one "Badjao" kid that cought my attention. He was not with the group of the rowdy pre-adolescent "Badjaos". He was alone and his hands were full of bags of peanuts which i later learned he was trying to sell. He was about 8 years old. He came over to my table and asked if i wanted to by some peanuts. I was about to shoo him off, but for some reason,i... | |
| | Council crackdown on alfresco cafe culture | | GLASGOW'S celebrated alfresco culture is facing a crackdown by city planners.Bars and cafes with substantial outdoor tables will face tough compliance regulations in a move that has angered the city's licensed trade.Glasgow City Council says the growing outdoor culture - fuelled by last year's long hot summer and the smoking ban - have sparked a surge in unauthorised alfresco venues. Now it wants to target businesses which "ignore their responsibilities."advertisementVenues with large outdoor areas need the go-ahead from three separate authorities - planning, roads and finally the licensing board. Now council chiefs want to scrutinize these venues more closely. But concern was expressed today by licensing board convener Councillor Gordon Macdiarmid who questioned the move and said they had received few, if any, complaints about smokers using outdoor tables. | |
